Komen’s Recommendations
for Good Breast Health

Breast cancer knows no boundary be it age, gender, socio-economic status, or geographical location. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. The key to survival is early detection.

Be Aware --- Take Action

Make these changes part of your life. You are the cure.

1. Annual mammography beginning at age 40
2. Clinical breast exams at least every three years beginning at age 20 and annually at age 40
3. Monthly breast self-examinations for all women beginning at age 20

Dine Out for the Cure

The WNY Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure helps recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Dine Out for the Cure, an annual event which raises funds for the battle against breast cancer.

This year’s event will be held at area restaurants on October 21, 2008. Participating restaurants will make a donation on behalf of their patrons that evening, with money raised to support the WNY Komen Affiliate’s community grants and outreach program.  Last year more than 60 restaurants participated in the event.  In addition, more than 140 community members volunteered their time serving as Dine Out Diplomats, who distributed pink lapel ribbons and breast health information to restaurant patrons.

Continue to check back as we let you know which restaurants will participate in Dine Out for the Cure 2008 . . . and mark your calendar for October 21, the perfect night to Dine Out!

Interested in volunteering? Know of a restaurant that would like to participate? If you own a restaurant or have a prospective restaurant in mind, or would like to serve as a Dine Out Diplomat, please contact Suzanne Krycia at (716) 649-1933 or Marlene Gonzalez at (716) 646-0266.
