Komen’s Recommendations
for Good Breast Health

Breast cancer knows no boundary be it age, gender, socio-economic status, or geographical location. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. The key to survival is early detection.

Be Aware --- Take Action

Make these changes part of your life. You are the cure.

1. Annual mammography beginning at age 40
2. Clinical breast exams at least every three years beginning at age 20 and annually at age 40
3. Monthly breast self-examinations for all women beginning at age 20

Komen WNY Programs

Speakers Bureau

Susan G. Komen for the Cure believes in empowering women by providing reliable breast health information so they can take charge of their health.  To help make that happen, Komen WNY volunteers are available to speak to community groups, corporate organizations and schools.  This service is provided to you at no cost as part of our mission to spread the life-saving message of early detection to the community.

Our Speakers Bureau is available to present to your organization or group a wide range of breast cancer and breast health issues, including the importance of breast self-examination techniques.  Most of our speakers are breast cancer survivors or medical professionals and lend their personal experiences to the presentation.

Health Fairs

For health-related events, such as health fairs, we are happy to set up a display and provide a wide variety of breast health information and materials.  This service is free of charge.

To request a speaker or arrange for a Komen WNY representative to attend your health fair or community event, please contact the Community Program Coordinator at deliajoslyn@komenwny.org or 716-523-9346.
